Breasts are one of the most intimate areas of a woman’s body. It is therefore natural that breasts express femininity and sexuality. Over the years, even the shape of a beautiful breast changes: firmness decreases, and breasts sag and flatten. This often happens not only to older women but also to mothers who have breastfed. The shape, size and appearance of the breasts are determined by many factors, the most important of which are age, heredity, weight changes, pregnancy, physical activity, and congenital diseases.
Breast augmentation is performed when a woman wants larger breasts, to regain her pre-pregnancy breast size, or to reduce pronounced asymmetry between breasts of different sizes. Unfortunately, however, breast augmentation does not lift very saggy breasts. In the case of more pronounced breast sagging, another procedure is needed – breast lift and breast augmentation with implants.
Breast augmentation with implants is a surgery in which an implant of a chosen size, shape and texture is inserted into a “pocket” in the breast tissue formed by the surgeon. Implants are filled with silicone gel. They can be circular or drop-shaped (‘anatomical’).
Breast augmentation with implants can be performed in different ways. The choice depends on the patient’s preference, anthropometric data and the plastic surgeon’s recommendations during the consultation.
During your consultation, you will discuss the main aspects of breast augmentation with your plastic surgeon:
Breast augmentation surgery is relatively simple and can be performed in a relatively short period of time – it takes about a couple of hours, and sometimes even less. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. After breast augmentation surgery, you can return to normal life quite quickly, but it is important to follow a few of the doctor’s instructions, such as limiting physical activity and arm movements and wearing a special bra for a few weeks.
